The Crime:

May 6th, 1993. Three 8 year old boys -Steve Branch, Christopher Byers and Michael Moore- were found brutally murdered in the Robin Hood Hills area of West Memphis, Arkansas USA. The West Memphis Police Department came to the conclusion the murders were linked to a Satanic ritual sacrifice. They arrested 3 teens -Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley for the murders. The three teens were tried and convicted of the murders in a court of law. Damien Echols is currently on death row.

The Problem:

There is no evidence to support these three teens were involved in the murders. The police pressured Jessie Misskelley into a confession. Upon listening to the confession it becomes obvious he knew nothing about the murders except from rumours he had heard and what the police told him. The police were sure Damien Echols was involved because he wore all black and listened to heavy metal music. Jason Baldwin was friends with Echols which is apparently good enough to be convicted of murder in West Memphis.

The Solution:

Simply, a fair and honest trial for Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley -The West Memphis Three. The Musicians for the West Memphis Three are not out to claim their innocence or simply set these three free. This project is designed to increase awareness that a fair trial has not yet happened. We are also working on various projects to help support the future legal battles these three must fight.

How you can help?

There are several ways you can help these three young men - education, funding, and awareness. You can also get involved in one of our current projects.

Current Projects:

The Musicians for the West Memphis Three are currently working on The CD Project which will help provide needed funding for the three. If you are a musician we urge you to get involved in this if you can.

We are also involved in the planning stages of a rather large research project which will include reviewing all available documents in the case and organizing these documents in an easy to research format which will be available on-line. More information on this to follow.

Education:

The WM3.ORG website is a great place to start. This website is a wealth of information pertaining to the case of the West Memphis Three. Case files, evidence, interviews, photographs, web banners and several funds set up to help the three. We urge you to read about this case. Learn the details. The people involved in the WM3.ORG website have our undying support and thanks for all their efforts. Any support you can give them will not go unnoticed.

There have been two documentary films made on this case, Paradise Lost and Paradise Lost 2: Revelations. You can rent them at your local video outlet and are available for purchase. If your local video outlet does not have these films, request them.

Funding:

The three currently are working with their legal teams on various appeals. This costs money. As Mr. Echols is considered "the ringleader" in the case and is currently on death row, his case holds some priority over the others. If it can be proved he is not guilty, the other two young men will have a much easier time with their cases. The Damien Echols Trust Account has been set up to cover the costs involved. There is more information located here. You can donate by check, Money Order, Visa, Mastercard or Paypal.

The WM3.ORG website costs money to operate. The Free the West Memphis Three Support Fund has been set up for education on the case, running the website, and other costs associated with their mission. They also sell t-shirts, bumper stickers, books and other items related to this case. The proceeds go to the Free the West Memphis Three Support Fund.

Several other funds have been set up to support the three. There is more information located at WM3.ORG.

As a musician, we know profit from music sales are tight as it is. But you might want to consider donating a percent from each CD sold to the Damien Echols Trust Account or the Free the West Memphis Three Support Fund. Every little bit will help.

Awareness:

First and foremost let people know about the West Memphis Three any way possible. Banners on websites, liner notes in CD's, flyers, posters or wear a Free the West Memphis Three T-shirt on stage.

Do you maintain an e-mail list? You can add a link to WM3.ORG or this site in the signature line of your e-mail.

As a musician, you can increase awareness by including one of our Musicians for the West Memphis Three banners on your site or music page. Just copy the html code below the banner of your choice.
